The Kamberg shop, on the road adjoining Molweni, has been a part of the Valley for over 120 years. Since moving onto the property, we’ve had the pleasure of connecting with previous owners to piece together a timeline of its rich history—from its early days as a clinic in the 1900s, to pumping fuel for the first time, and more recently serving as a trading hub for both locals and tourists.
We love hearing the stories and seeing old photographs from its time as “The Little Berg Store,” before it became “The Kamberg Store,” and later, “Kamberg Valley Store” under John and Joan. Yvonne Smith once crafted beautiful wedding cakes here, while her husband delivered goods to neighbours in the area—long before Checkers 60/60 was even imagined!
Preserving this history means a great deal to us, which is why we have been working towards reopening the Kamberg shop, to support the needs of the community. Currently we are open twice a week, and hope to open more often when the time comes.
